Extending Corsair’s legendary reputation in performance and quality, the new Corsair VX family of power supplies features the industry’s most efficient power mangement and ultra-quiet design for mainstream users. Unlike most power supplies in the market, the Corsair VX incorporates a single +12V power rail that delivers continous power under heavy loads. This conservative design ensures reliable operation in today’s most demanding system configurations and adds compatiblity for future platforms.

The unique combination of rock solid performance and incredible value puts the Corsair VX family of power supplies in a class of its own. Ideal for home theater PCs and ENERGY STAR PCs, the VX line maximizes energy savings and minimum noise generation thanks to double-forward switching circuitry design.

CORSAIR 550w VX Series 12v ATX 80 Plus Certified Power Supply Reviews

I’ve only had this a few weeks, but this is an excellent mid-level power supply that should suit the needs of most desktop users (except hardcore gamers). Extremely quiet and stable. Pretty simple upgrade to do on the standard power supply that came with my OEM desktop. This unit is standard ATX size and should fit inside any mid-tower case. It has plenty of connections (carefully tie up the unused connections to keep the inside of your case neat). I’m using it to power a Q6600 desktop (non-overclocked), two DVD-RW drives and two 500G hard drives, and this should also be able to handle a very good, mid-level graphic card (like an 8800GT or Radeon 4850). This power supply is also SLI/Crossfire capable, but likely only for lower-powered graphic cards (a dual 8800GT or Radeon 4850 setup will probably be too much to handle for this unit). But if you don’t need/want a very high end graphic card(s), then this power supply is highly recommended.

Corsair is THE best power supply manufacturer by far. I believe this particular model has a MTBF (mean time between failure) of 100,000 hours, which is insane. I am running a GTX 295, overclocked core i7, DVD burner, 10k hard drive, and 6 gigs of 1600 Mhz Ram with ease on this power supply with breathing room. When I get my other GTX 295 and hook up the Quad SLI, add another hard drive, blu-ray burner, and 6 more gigs of ram, I will need a 1200W power supply and I really wish Corsair made one. The only real “con” is that it isn’t modular so you need to have decent cable management to keep the airflow tip top. Buy this, you won’t be disappointed.

On full load I’m drawing 787 watts (includes my 2 LCD’s and my router) per my UPS and I idle at 380 watts. Q6600 overclocked stable at 3495mhz so far, QuadFire 3870’s (x2 3870×2’s ASUS) overclocked, 4 hard drive raid 0 + 1, 500gb sata II drive, 2 DVD burners, and a floppy all in the Antec 1200 case. This PSU is very quiet, and so far so good it can handle everything I’m throwing at it. Plenty cord length for my tower of a case to hide the cables behind the mother board too.

This is a great power supply for the medium to heavy gamer machine. I only wish it had plug in modules so that the excess wires could be removed from the computer case. My case is a little cluttered with all the extra wires.

I purchased a Dell computer about a week before, hoping to make some cheap modifications to it. I purchased this power supply, but feared it wouldn’t fit in the very small dell case. To my delight, it fits just fine. A little work to get it in, but the ties the supply come with make cleaning up the cables easy. However, the cables fill up A LOT of space if you don’t have a full tower. Like I said, I have a small case, and I managed to tuck them all away. I can barely hear the supply when it is idle, and it is only slightly louder when it is running. Great find, and pleased it worked out!

Very impressed with this product. Its heavy too and has plenty of connections. I was able to stow the excess cables in my mid tower case. This replaced a cheap 520 PSU I had in in my case, and there is no turing back this Corsair rocks. My system seems so much more responsive and cooler now. Well done Corsair, this product is a winner!
