I purchased this toy as a Christmas present, so I have not yet had an opportunity to put it together and see how it works. However, I will say that I was not aware that the packaging would be “Amazon Frustration-Free” packaging. I am disappointed that my grandson will not be able to see the train on the front of a box when he opens his Christmas present. He is only 2 years old, so I don’t think he understands the idea of “frustration” — I, however, am frustrated that nobody told me prior to my purchase; otherwise I would not have bought it.

I received this set in the mail today. I purchased this on amazon with their frustration-free packaging. It was $20 less to get the frustration-free packaging vs. the retail packaging. I guess you just have to ask yourself if the box is worth $20. With the frustration-free packaging, it is a brown box, but it still says Fisher Price and can be easily wrapped. Most of us toss the boxes anyway!

The only complaint that I have is that I can tell that the train is going to cost us a fortune in batteries! However, that is to be expected. It seems like all of my son’s toys eat batteries. Now, if only I had stock in the battery companies…hmmmm.

On to what I love about this set. I purchased this set for my son’s 2nd birthday. Toys just aren’t on sale in September, so I buy ahead. Currently, my son is only 15 1/2 months old. I still decided to set this up and take a look at it. I wanted to see if he could even play with it at 2 (as advertised on the box). My son LOVES it! He really enjoyed following the train and derailing it. He also climbed all over the train set. It holds up! This is a very sturdy train set that is appropriate for young children.

Daddy and I also really enjoyed putting this train set together. It is fun to try different track arrangements.

We will definitely be purchasing more Geotrax items.

I found this set on Amazon for only $34.99 with free shipping and no tax. What a deal! I saw the same set in Sears for $99.99 plus tax!

This is a great set. Reviewers that are complaining about the “frustration-free” packaging, should have read the description more closely. There is clearly an option for either retail packaging or frustration-free. I’m giving this as a Christmas gift for my 3yo and I’m just planning on setting it up right under the tree so she’ll see it first thing Christmas morning. Seems like the best way to deal with the packaging.

Just purchased this item for my 2 and a half year old son for Christmas. Didn’t realize that it came with frustration free packaging. While this seems economically and environmentally friendly…I don’t envision my son will be excited to unwrap a plain brown box! Just an FYI. Guess Santa will have to build this one!

From the moment the track was set up my son would not stop playing with it. The fact that he ran the batteries down didn’t stop him from doing so. He also enjoyed the dvd that came with it. At times he would drive the train while watching the tv. My only wish was that it came with it’s own rechargeable system instead of using AAA batteries.
