As a Mom of a 16 year old, this hit me right in the heart. It gave me an inside look into the mind of a teenager and made me remember what its like to be 16 again. To feel so unsure about everything and yet remember what my parents mean to me. I will try to work harder to give my daughter more praise, as Katie she may not respond to it, she is way too cool.
But, inside it will make a difference, and that is more important. This book, was a truthful sweet look into Katie’s life. The good, bad, ugly and the funny. I want to read the other books, just to reconnect to Katie and see how she is. A great read for the teens, Moms, and Grandma’s!

I was looking for a cheap and easy read. I ended up loving this book and had to rush to order the other two in the series. It was laugh out loud funny with characters that were so well described that I could almost see them. The fact that they were faith-based was a real plus too.

I really enjoyed this book, it had a freshness to it, and you just couldn’t help liking Katie. Poor kid had a rough time of it, but she decided she had a choice as to whether her past would define her, she saw that each bad decision was just that, her decision and she could decide to change. Katie is warm, real and you just can’t help rooting for her.
I will be buying the second book, I want to know how the next act in Katie’s life plays out, she has my vote!

From the very first page I was drawn into Katie Parker’s story. Although she had a tough life, she never drowned in self-pity, always keeping her snarky sense of humor, even in the face of her quirky foster grandmother, Maxine. Jones has crafted an excellent YA novel that appeals far beyond its intended audience. This book is for anyone who enjoys a tender story carefully woven with laugh-out loud humor.
